A Brief History of Verplanck's Point *

September 14, 1609 and October 1, 1609 are both dates that Henry Hudson's Halfmoon is reported to have dropped anchor in the waters off Verplanck. 

NY Times Article dated March 8, 1896 refers to the date of  August 24, 1683 when Verplanck was purchased from the Indians for "wampum, rum, beer, knives, and trinkets".
